a little about me . . .
I am currently based in Brooklyn, New York, and have appeared on multiple off-Broadway and independent theatre stages throughout New York City.
Catch me on the first Wednesday of every month at Fáilte Irish Whiskey Bar in Murray Hill with Our Bar: all original site specific dive bar theatre now in it’s 12th Year in NYC!
I am also a teaching artist and team member at the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect. I oversee their arts-based educational programs that teach students Anne’s story, empower them to be upstanders and build the kinder world that Anne Frank envisioned and deserved. Every once in a while I even portray Anne for the Center’s educational performance programs, "Conversations with Anne” and “Letters from Anne and Martin.”
if you wanna know more . . .
I grew up among the redwoods on the serene northern coast of California. There I discovered acting at the age of 6 and was exposed to a wide variety of theatre in my community, including productions at the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre in Blue Lake. I continued to be heavily involved in the theatre community through high school, helped run a teen theatre company, and landed a supporting role in my first feature film, Escape in Time.
In 2007, I was accepted to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Summer Seminar where I solidified my determination to pursue a career in the theatre. I attended the University of California in Santa Barbara where I received my BA in Dramatic Arts and Psychology. After graduating, I returned to my theatrical roots in Northern California where I spent a year actively involved in the theatre scene, appearing on multiple stages in my hometown area.
I was accepted to The New School for Drama where I received my MFA in Acting. While at the New School, I trained with Kathryn Rossetter, Karen Ludwig, Julie Boyd, Joe Grifasi, Cotter Smith, and Ron Leibman as well as studied Classical Technique with Casey Biggs and Stephen Fried.
"Unbelievably talented."
~ Laura Maria Censabella, playwright Abandoned in Queens, Three Italian Women
"...a wonder to work with.
She has instincts regarding what motivates her character that I haven’t seen in many actors."
~ Jasper Anderton, director of Ferndale Rep's Wait Until Dark
“The strongest actor on the entire stage was Alexandra Gellner
as the Nurse. Gellner gave a potential one-off character life. The depth and heart Gellner discovered in the Nurse was incredible.”
~ Michael Block, Theater in the Now review of Cradle Theatre Company’s Romeo and Juliet
